Why Top Agents Hire a Real Estate Ghostwriter, and What They Hand Off

The best agents are rarely at their desks. They are walking a listing, sitting with a seller, or answering a buyer's question at 9 at night. The writing that supports their business, including bios, market updates, newsletters, and listing stories, tends to wait for a quiet hour that never comes.

A real estate ghostwriter takes that work off the list. The agent supplies the knowledge, the relationships, and the final say. The writer supplies the time, the structure, and the sentences.

What gets handed off varies, but a few things come up again and again. Agents hand off property descriptions and the longer story behind a listing, including the architect, the setting, and what makes the house worth a second look. They hand off biographies that read like a person rather than a resume, and farm letters and market updates for their sphere of influence. They hand off press releases for a major sale and the posts and newsletters that keep them visible between transactions.

What they keep matters just as much. The agent keeps the relationships, the opinions, and the approval of every piece. A ghostwritten post or letter goes out under the agent's name, so it should sound like her and say only what she stands behind.

In luxury real estate the stakes are higher, because the buyer is reading closely. Generic phrases give the reader a reason to stop. Specific details, such as the materials, the light, the neighborhood's history, and the person who designed the house, give the reader a reason to keep going.

I have been a contract writer for Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties since 2008. Some of the pitch summaries and editorial frameworks I produced there informed features in Robb Report. The work taught me how agents talk, what they care about, and how to make a listing read like a story worth telling.
